Hey everyone,
Forget what I said about the fish being in great shape. Two of the neon tetras died, most likely because the water got pretty chilly. I like to sleep when it’s freezing cold so I open my window even in the winter, but it turns out that’s a pretty rotten idea when you’ve got an aquarium in your room. Oops. I picked up a water heater so hopefully the rest will continuing not dying for a while.
By the way, the window froze open and required the hair dryer to close.
[EDIT] As of November 26th the remaining 6 fish seem fine. The water temperature is steady at 24 degrees.

Hey everyone,
In case you’re wondering how my fish are doing, they’re fine. All seven neon tetras and the blind cave tetra are alive and well. The ammonia level briefly spiked, then fell, then the nitrite spiked, now everything is minimum. Here’s some photographic evidence: Continue reading “On eyes and aquariums”
Hey everyone,
Today it is raining fairly significantly. In the same way that the winter drives bugs into your home, rain seems to drive idiots into the buildings at York. On rainy days no one wants to be outside, so the Bethune / Stong cafeteria is packed. That means that I will have to share my table (hence the title). If you’re reading my site you probably know I’m not a very social person. Sitting with others, while unpleasant, is something I accept as a necessity, like sharing my seat on the bus. The tables are large and it’s not fair for me to have one to myself while others stand there, eating. That doesn’t mean I have to like it, though. Continue reading “Communists”
Hey everyone,
[November 8 EDIT] IT’S SNOWING! [/EDIT]
Today it is officially close to my favourite time of the year. I saw frost on the rooftops, which means winter is finally settling in. Unlike most people I prefer winter to summer for a variety of reasons. The first of these is that I am far more comfortable physically when it is cold, preferably very cold. I think my body produces too much heat or something. I sleep better, I feel more energetic, etc. Continue reading “Winter”
