New shelves
Hey everyone,
Today the bookcases and window blinds arrived, completing the basement. I’m going to get some sort of cabinet for the bathroom, but that’s a “when I feel like it” project. One of the poles for the blinds will be shipped later (I guess they only had two in stock?), so I have one uncovered window left. They’re simple frilly things, good for privacy without blocking sunlight. The bedroom one is a little darker.
Here are some pictures of the pre-book shelves. As a side note a lot of people complain about assembling furniture, but it’s the part I look forward to the most. It’s like giant adult Lego! Shelves are a bit of a disappointment, but my computer desk was awesome to build back when I got that. I still have the whole hutch thing over my dresser in my room for books later (two medium sized shelves):
Now, here is the basement free of the pile of books in front of the TV, and with packed shelves. As you can see, there’s roughly one shelf left, split up here and there:
The dark brown shelf is serious material. National Geographic, textbooks, biographies, etc. The top pale shelves are the best of the best. These are authors who I check up on regularly to see if they’ve done anything new. From left to right they are:
- Alastair Reynolds
- Douglas Adams (deceased)
- Richard Morgan
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (deceased)
- [Next shelf] Charles Stross
- Peter F. Hamilton
- Arthur C. Clarke (deceased)
- Stephen Baxter
- Jack McDevitt
- Robert Charles Wilson
The bottom shelf of the left pale bookcase is oversized stuff, ugly school manuals and oddly shaped comics. The bottom right shelf is french comics (Asterix & Obelix, Tintin, etc.) as well as the Guinness Book of World Records 1999-2003.
